Saddam Hussein former President of Iraq who went to the gallons as if it was an every day event made international news and in a moment in time became world renowned household name among all generations. In life and in death he has been one of the most controversial leaders of the Arab world of the 20 th century. Loved and detested equally he could never be ignored. In his total reign he has been called by many names complimenting and uncomplimentary to his name such as glorious leader, Great Uncle, President, Field Marshall, patriot, the mad man of the Middle East, megalomaniac, social revolutionary, a modernizer, a brutal dictator and so on. His whole life is ridden in controversy.
As a leader he was very ambitious for himself and for his country. Some felt he had no conscious and showed subdued but firm aggression towards adversaries, they even believed to have seen a paranoid gleam in his eyes. In short he was a man of determination and knew how to control the masses as well. His mind functioned very well in political tally and management which gave him a fair enough idea how to survive among opponents and get political mileage. Like a true man of the Arab world he was very conscious of his reputation and honour. His stretcher as a leader was enhanced when he dealt in his own way with the West.
Saddam Hussein was not born on 28 th April 1937 , in not very envious surroundings. He belonged to a family of sheep-herders and lived in a mud-brick house at Tikrit of Saladdin Province situated towards north-west of Baghdad . His Uncle a staunch believer in Iraqi unity belonged to Iraqi Army and was called Khayrallah Tulfah; he influenced the mind of the young lad who joined Arab Baath Socialist Party at a young age of 19. However Saddam Hussein's formal entry into active politics began in 1959 when PM of Iraq Abudul Karim Kassim was killed in a plot. After this Saddam Hussein escaped to Syria travelled to Egypt and completed his law degree in Cairo in 1963. In the same year he returned to his country. Here he played active political role in different capacity as a party worker. He reached the zenith of his political career in 1979 when at the age of 42 he became commander-in-chief of the defence forces.
